Canberra's major annual blues piano event is coming up—Mawson featuring well-known local maestro Wayne Kelly as well as Carolyne Parker, Ali Penney, John Black and Leo Joseph.
This year at Blues Piano Night, one can hear five different players give their individual approaches to the blues piano genres. Styles will range from Jelly Roll Morton’s Cuban influences from the early 20th Century through to stride piano, the melodic styles of New Orleans piano, and the great crowd favourite, the 10 handed boogie woogie.
Wayne Kelly always shows how jazz and blues are so intimately related to each other and to gospel music. Also this year we have John Black's superb mastery of stride. Ali Penney and Leo Joseph, both well-known local blues piano players are rounding out the bill. Each of the four players will solo and then as duos and there will be a few 10 handed crowd-pleasers.
Tickets $11 plus booking fee.
