FROM THE AUSTRIAN CHOIR

Our year commenced with an Autumn Concert. The auditorium was beautifully decorated in all the colours of autumn by Jean Roberts and was filled to capacity. The guest were treated to a wonderful afternoon of musical entertainment which included guest artists, the Canberra Harmony Chorus.

On September 15th we travelled to Sydney and participated in a mini Sängerfest organised by the Cäcilien Choir. In total four choirs - the Concordia Choir, Austrian Choir Canberra, Sans Soucci German Male Choir Wollongong and hosts, the Cäcilien Choir Croydon - participated. It was a wonderful afternoon of singing, each choir performing their own program as well as featuring a ladies only song, Sagt Holde Frauen and a rousing rendition of the Jägerchor performed by the men. The program started and ended with combined choir segments.

Our next performance is at the Club’s Heimat Tag (Austrian Afternoon) on Sunday October 27th at 2pm. Our young Austrian Dance Group led by Nicole Krege, will be in action again and the adult Enzian Dance Group will also add culture to the afternoon led by Franz Niederkofler and his able assistant Edeltraud. There will also be a Trachten parade and at interval coffee/tea and homemade cake will be available.

We will also be fulfilling our obligation to the community by performing for the residents of the Mirinjani Nursing Home.

On Wednesday December 4th at 7.30pm we will have our Christmas Concert at the Club. There is no need to book just come early to get a good seat. Admission is a gold coin donation and all funds raised will be donated to the Country Women's Association for assistance to farmers and communities who are in hardship due to the drought. Please invite all your families and friends.

Saturday December 7th is our Advent Singen. The Choir and the Young Austrians are preparing a wonderful evening’s entertainment commencing with the ‘Christkindlmarkt’ in the foyer of the Club at 5.30pm. You will be able to buy homemade Christmas biscuits, candles and even a small gift for someone. The raffle will include Christmas hampers as well as other wonderful prizes. And not forgetting a visit from Santa with treats for the children. This event is always a full house, so please book early. Contact either Hanni 6288 7884 or Sue 0405 712 502. Admission is $5 for adults and children under 16 are free.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Austrian Australian Club Management and Committee for their continued support and to the Club members and friends for their loyal patronage at our functions throughout the year.

Our best wishes for a Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New Year to you all. From the Musical Director, Choir President, Committee and Singers.

Mit freundlichem Sängergruss,
Hanni Glanznig
