Dear Members and Friends!
It’s that time of the year for another update from my very busy desk.
Since my last update, there have been some staffing changes within the club. In the kitchen and restaurant, we have farewelled our duo team Sean and Tim (we wish them well in their future endeavours) and welcome our new chef, Kris and apprentice chef, Suki. We have had some amazing food come out of the kitchen, and a thank you to Rosemarie Doeberl, our new Vice President Social, who has been working with Kris to produce some amazing traditional Austrian food and daily specials. We have also farewelled long time bar staff member Katrina.
In this year’s club financial audit, some financial irregularities in the club were discovered. This led to the resignation of our previous Manager, Mark. We have advertised the Manager’s position, and thank you to Rob Bolin for temporarily stepping into the Manager’s role to keep the club running smoothly.
Now the weather is warming up, there is no excuse for hibernation. Come into the club and enjoy a great meal. Friday night is band night with Bucky and Jeffro bringing in some great talent, including blues, roots and country, and once a month, Jazz Haus Canberra presenting jazz artists. We have local, national and international guest artists performing. We also have our local DJ Joe playing every month, so put on your dancing shoes and come along for an evening of dancing. For further details on club events, see the club’s E-Blatt (emailed monthly to you), our Facebook page or brochures/posters around the club.
There was a fantastic turnout on Saturday, 5 October to raise funds for White Ribbon Australia – ending violence against women. I was amazed at all the female talent and some of the domestic violence stories told were very emotional.
We will be celebrating our club’s 50th Anniversary next year. I would like to borrow photos, slides and negatives from members relating to the last 49 years of the club. Please send an email to the club, give me a call or leave a message for me at the club so I can contact you to arrange pick-up. If you would like to drop them into the club, package them up and leave your contact details so I can return them.
Many members have been asking about the Serbian Church’s vacant block of land next door. From what I can tell, there won’t be any building works going on in the near future as the block of land is now up for sale.
Until the next ‘Das Blatt’, looking forward to seeing you at the club, and I hope you and your family have an enjoyable and safe Christmas.
